Looking Back, Looking Ahead

JudithDear Colleagues and Friends,

In the ancient Roman mythology and religion the god Janus symbolizes beginnings and transitions.  Janus, the two-faced god looks back to the past and looks toward the future.  With the passing of 2012, our chapter has written another successful six months to the pages of its history. Here are a few highlights of the accomplishments of 2012.

Starting on June 1st we transitioned from the 2011/2012-service year to 2012/2013 year, by having the previous elected officers and committees members pass the torch to the newly elected officers and committee members.

During that business meeting we formed five committees: an Outreach Committee, a Bylaws/Nominating/Election Committee, a Communications Committee a Membership Committee and the Professional Development Committee.  Although the number of the committees is fewer our commitment to them is strong. NCNMLG Business Meeting: 2 Days Left To Register!

Dear Colleagues.

As our Country is approaching the day of the next Presidential election our chapter is feverishly preparing for its next business meeting. Both events will take place on November 6. It is our civil duties to both vote and be active community members.  So on that day please vote and also attend our next meeting at the Delancey Street Foundation. Our  NCNMLG members’ expectations are heightened as this is a very special meeting because the guest of honor will be none other than  Jane Blumenthal, 2012-2013 MLA President Jane’s reputation is that she is a dynamic personable speaker, therefore we looking forward to an hour of lively interactive discussion with her. From The President

Dear Colleagues,

I can hardly imagine a more exciting and opportunity-filled position than to be the member of Northern California & Nevada Medical Library Group and to serve as its elected president.  Our chapter has a long history that brings us the responsibility to cultivate and grow our professional success.  This year we are celebrating the 65th anniversary of NCNMLG’s establishment.  My aim in working with you closely is to thrive on being a learning organization. There will be several learning opportunities presented through the year and I hope that we can participate and benefit from them. I am proud to share with you that our members have made them possible either by teaching the course or hosting it at their university location. Notably, one option is the “Facebook and Social Media” webinar on September 19 and the Information Treasure Hunt: Supporting Evidence-Based Practice @ Your Institution, on November 30. Some other upcoming learning option is the “Internet Librarian conference and its companion training Internet@SchoolsTrack” on October 22-24 where our members can benefit a substantial discount.

Hope to see you there!

Judith Weiner Mills,  NCNMLG President
