If you have any questions please let me know.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Warm Regards,<br \/>\nJudith\u00a0Weiner\u00a0Mills,\u00a0AHIP,\u00a0MLIS, MS<br \/>\nKnowledge Manager Librarian<br \/>\nNCNMLG\u00a0Past President<\/p>\n<p><b>Discovering\u00a0TOXNET:\u00a0From Paracelsus to Nanotechnology (Module 1)<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>Online\u00a0beta class<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>July 22 \u2013 August 2: \u00a0work on your own time, estimated 3 hours total<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>August 7: \u00a01 hour web conference, 10 am Pacific Time<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>MLA\u00a0CE: \u00a04 hours<\/b><\/p>\n<p>This\u00a0online\u00a0class will be taught asynchronously (participants work on their own time) for two weeks, followed by a one-hour synchronous Adobe Connect session in the third week. \u00a0The class will cover the following\u00a0<strong>TOXNET\u00a0database: \u00a0ChemIDPlus,\u00a0LactMed,\u00a0TOXLINE,\u00a0Chemm,\u00a0Remm, and Wiser.<\/strong> \u00a0The class is offered at no cost to participants.<\/p>\n<p>Please note that this is a BETA class offered by the National Library of Medicine Training Center. \u00a0As part of your participation, we would ask that you keep track of the time spent in the asynchronous portion of the class, as well as providing detailed feedback to help us improve the class.<\/p>\n<p>During the asynchronous portion of the class, participants will watch video demonstrations and then perform interactive exercises designed to help them discover the information in the databases. \u00a0We estimate 2-3 hours total for the asynchronous portion, but since this is a beta class, we are asking participants to keep track of their time in order to determine if our estimate is accurate.<\/p>\n<p><strong>During the synchronous session using Adobe Connect web conferencing program, we will:\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Review discovery exercises and go over questions \/ misconceptions from the assignments turned in<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Go over strategies for research\/reference questions turned in by the participants<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Review which database to use for what purpose through interactive polls\u00a0and\u00a0whiteboard exercise<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Technical requirements:<\/p>\n<p>Asynchronous: \u00a0Internet connection; Web browser to access\u00a0Moodle, our course management system. \u00a0Ability to watch videos on\u00a0YouTube.<\/p>\n<p>Synchronous session: \u00a0Internet connection; Web browser to access Adobe Connect and telephone for audio<\/p>\n<p><b>To register for the\u00a0online\u00a0beta class: \u00a0send an e-mail to Sharon Dennis at sharon.dennis@utah.edu. \u00a0Deadline for registering: \u00a0Close of Business, July 12, 2013.<\/b><\/p>\n<p>If the timing does not work out for you to attend this beta class, we are also offering\u00a0an\u00a0in-person\u00a0TOXNET\u00a0class in San Francisco on February 27, 2014, from 9 am\u2013\u00a04 pm. \u00a0The in-person class is offered at no cost to\u00a0participants. \u00a0To register for the in-person class, see\u00a0http:\/\/nnlm.gov\/ntcc\/classes\/schedule.html#class5.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Hi NCNMLG Members!
