Be a Part of the New NCNMLG!

As we gear-up, re-vamp and revitalize our chapter, there are many opportunities available to those of you who have been looking for a way to connect with colleagues while engaged in a rewarding activity. Our committee structure has been reconfigured to have 5 large committees instead of lots of small ones. This new structure spreads the work among a larger group and provides a way to connect with colleagues. Read on to see a description of the committees, who is currently on the committee, and how many more people are needed. Please decide on which committee strikes your fancy and get back to me (radavis@ucdavis.edu)by this WEDNESDAY. I’m happy to answer any questions. Thanks! p.s. Don’t forget our business meeting on March 5th. More on that later. Continue reading

Judith Mills’ Vision Statement

Judith Mills, MLIS, MS, Knowledge Manager Librarian at FDB (First Databank, Inc.), will begin her presidential term at the conclusion of the Medical Library Association Conference in May, 2012. The following is a statement of her mission during her term:

The mission of my time in office would be to serve the MLA in such a capacity that we would give voice and visibility to its ideals and fundamental visions, be a continual advocate for progress in reaching all its goals technical, organizational, and financial.

In these hard times this would include a special focus on keeping the organization at the local and regional levels financially sound so that they could carry out their vibrant local mandates-this would include developing new membership, raising monies for scholarships and research grants and customized local and regional events.

This also means preserving and conserving what works best for the MLA and what it stands for while progressively absorbing and providing learning and leadership opportunities based on new ideas from our rich and complex surroundings.

A Note from Our Interim President

Hello All,
I have always enjoyed working with NCNMLG, so I am excited about the prospect of being your Interim President until June. During the next couple of months, we need to have a business meeting, to hold our annual election, and we need to appoint chairs for the standing committees. Appointed President-Elect Judith Mills and I will be working together to tend to the needs of the group and to encourage all of you to get involved. See opportunity below It would be great to hold the business meeting in the Oakland/Emeryville/SF area. Is there a member whose institution is located with walking distance of a BART/Amtrak station who would be willing to host a 2-3 hour program/business meeting for up to 30 people some time during January 30 – February 8? If so, please respond to me off list and we can discuss details.

Thanks, RD
p.s. Did you know that NCNMLG is the oldest MLA chapter? The first meeting of the “Medical Librarians of the Bay Area” was held in November 1947.
