Stephen Kiyoi

Hi all – I’m excited to be working with all of you in NCNMLG!

For those of you I haven’t met, let me briefly introduce myself – I am currently the Library Director at the UCSF/San Francisco General Hospital. In that role, I oversee the library’s activities and programs, recruit and manage staff, and lead grants for patient education, archives, and research.

I am also a student with UCSF, in their Masters in Healthcare Administration Program. This program has been a great opportunity to collaborate with interdisciplinary teams and better advocate for our library’s relevance in the healthcare setting.

Before coming back to the Bay area, I was an Associate Fellow with the National Library of Medicine, where I led projects in mobile web design, outreach to special populations, and legislative advocacy.

NCNMLG is a fantastic organization with a long tradition of educating and empowering health sciences librarians at all stages in their careers.  In the coming year, I want to learn about what issues and challenges your library is facing, and the innovative projects you’re undertaking to move our profession forward. It’s important that we share our challenges as well as our successes so that we can learn from each other.

I also want to provide more opportunities for everyone – especially new health sciences librarians – to contribute to our organization and profession. In the upcoming weeks, please keep an eye out for an upcoming call for participation, which will describe all the different ways you can get more involved with NCNMLG. There are many ways to participate, including planning upcoming conferences, helping with our website, improving communications, and outreach.

I’m looking forward to working with all of you, and learning together!
