I attended the Joint Meeting in La Jolla and took 2 CE classes. The first one was given by Connie Schardt, who is the authority on Evidence-based practice and is still teaching classes even though she is retired. She showed and explained us the criteria for judging the validity of therapy studies and studies of diagnostic tests. She also went over the differences between quantitative and qualitative studies.  Continue reading

Information Treasure Hunt Workshop: A follow-up

Evidence-Based Practice is all about information management for providing quality patient care.  Understanding the principles and concepts behind Evidence-Based Practice can help us enhance the services and resources we provide to our health care workers.  There are lots of ways to do this within the constraints of budgets and staffing.  Some examples:
•    Using the PICO framework when conducting a reference interview for a literature search

Call for proposals: MLGSCA/NCNMLG Joint Meeting

The Planning Committee of the MLGSCA/NCNMLG chapters of the Medical Library Association invites proposals for contributed papers and posters for the 2013 Joint Meeting. The meeting will be held in La Jolla, CA on July 24-26, 2013 at the University of California, San Diego’s Price Center. The conference theme is Waves of Change, Oceans of Opportunity and can encompass a variety of topics. Projects, services, innovations, lessons learned, and success stories which illustrate how we are celebrating opportunity during continual change are all possible paper or poster topics. Deadline for submissions is March 31, 2013.
